Ratboy Slim has had diarrhoea now for at least 10 days (he first had it in Turkey, with one several episodes of vomiting that lasted for one evening).

The diarrhoea continues and he went to the Dr yesterday who said his tummy was nice and soft and he wasn't showing any signs of being dehydrated. We fed him as normal this morning and took him to school and by 10am the school were calling and asking us to collect him. To be safe we'll probably keep him off for the rest of the week. He's happy and alert and his appetite is now fine since we got home.

Should I perhaps not feed him for 24 hours? He's asking for food (cakes) and I feel bad but I don't know what to do for the best. We've tried the bland diet and tried probiotic yoghurts but the diarrhoea won't die down.

Thanks.

antibiotics for a gut infection are not much recommended ( since at least the seventies)

salmonella for example, only S typhi wd earn them. They are absorbed and if the infection is gut only then blah blah blah.

SJ's post is not helpful for children, and seems to be a post-travellers' diarrhoea condition

https://academic.oup.com/jtm/article/20/5/303/1810882.

which I got 1985 ( characteristic cow pats for 2 or 3 weeks), and they threatened a gut biopsy which I thought was a bit sporting. - now it seems to be post travellers diarrhoea IBS

I wd continue as is, and wait for it to go away

lcg, is your boy feeling better today?
next day
I wondered if the child were better
Hope your little one has got over the worse now, Lcg.
My 8 year old Granddaughter has chickenpox :-(
From the OP on GMEB today:
"Moules is okay in himself but he's still loose and hence he's not at school again today. There is an Imodium syrup you can get for children so OH will get some of that on the way home."
Thanks Choux. :-)

Sorry, Patsy, I've only just read your post about your granddaughter. I hope she's okay now. The little one has already had chickenpox. It's best to get it out of the way I suppose.

I had chicken pox and shingles by the age of 9.
