Often, simply being able to talk your feelings through is really helpful.
Left in your mind, your thoughts run around in circles, but if you speak them out loud, you get a sense of perspective, and it can often help you to find a solution to your issue(s).

Founder Chad Varah was a vicar who offered a chat to anyone needing it.
When the demand grew, he arranged for a couple of lcoal ladies to make tea in the waiting room for people waiting to see him.
He found that, often, by the time the person got to him, they had enjoyed a chat with the tea lady, and felt much better, and no longer needed to see him.
From this simply concept, that someone simply listening, without offering advice or 'solutions' was a valuable commodity, and the Samaritans was born.
It's not something that works for everyone, but it is a hugely valuable service to people who need to have a chat with a non-judgemental stranger.
