My Mother always said"Put a bread poultice on it!" for any kind of spot/boil or infection.

I can see how make them, but as the spot that won't go quickly enough is on a bum cheek,I don't see how I can keep the bread poultice there!LOL

My question is,are they worth making, and do they work?

a hot salty bath may help to draw it out too - not sure deep heat is the best as I don't think its advisable to get that in an open wound (if it bursts)

You could try toasting it and stapling to hold it in place.

Well, they used to!  Boil a bit of bread with milk, apply and wince - or boil a tin of kaolin poultice, apply and scream!

Given the  location Iwould apply hot water manually to draw it.  Difficult to lance it, so once coming to a head apply antiseptic ointment & cover with a plaster.  Repeat as needed.

Awkward, so persevere.  Main thing is to draw it and keep it clean.

I had a boil on my bum as a tiny baby - and I've still got the scar to prove it.

More a dimple than a link 😁  😁  😁  😁  😁  😁

Just hold a hot flannel on it whenever you can

Thank You guys,

Well, so far the consensus (because of where it is) seems to be hot water, and a flannel,to draw it out?
Which I shall try.

I am using Germolene cream(which has a pain killer and an antiseptic) and it is shrinking, but slowly.

I shall report back here, and let you know!LOL

Well, that's not how I eat my bread !

Forget the traditional remedy, get some cream from the pharmacist.

you can get magnesium sulphate from the chemist - apply to a gauze pad and tape it too your backside

///get some cream from the pharmacist.///

Why spend money when ingredients are in the house.

Because it'll stick there and solve the OP's issue.

Magnesium sulphate works well and is not that expensive. Apply using large bandaid. Clean with hot salt water before applying new bandaid and cream

As someone mentioned heat being useful, I have tried "Deep Heat" and it seems to work, and I will try hot salt water first to cleanse the"spot".

What a subject to get concerned about, but it tells me it is there, every time I sit down!

NN--- You say it hurts when you sit down so why don't you buy a pack of padded underpants just for the time being. They might ease the pain.

We used to call that black jack, used it to draw splinters and boils

Andres,

As I am 76,I have beaten you to it.

I already have had to invest (for some time) in Boots Mens Incontinence Pants, and they work very well.

I am wondering if they might cause the spot by being an irritant, but I cannot do without them.

The "deep heat cream" seems to be working.

Getting old is no fun!

'Getting old is no fun!'

I have to agree!

Black Jack works. I used it as a kid. Draws out boils, among other things.

As Bette Davis observed 'Old age ain't for cissies!'   Mr. J2 is now 90.  Leg vain problems = ulcers; skin cancer spreading nicely and has been for over 20 years (going to have to have new tumours chopped off his head, ear and nose fairly soon) and all this on top of a congenital heart problem which led to a Triple Bypass  in 2000.  Still going strong, however.  Recommend a  small, feisty dog.

Glad the spot is responding to treatment, nosey.
