I am on anti-depressant medication, and have been for more than thirty years.
At one time I was given Prozac, one of the most prescribed anti-depressants available, and it made me suicidal, it wasn't for me.
You need to speak with your doctor about either adjusting your doseage, or changing the medication altogether.
Be aware that it can take up to a month for a new medication to stabalise, but you need to have a conversation and end your suffering.
Good luck.
I'd just add that a GP isn't necessarily the best person to deal with mental health issues and prescription of suitable medication. I know two people who struggled until they were referred to their local mental health teams. After seeing doctors specialising in mental health, they were prescribed different meds - one of which the GP had never heard! They are now both much improved and meds are "tweaked" every so often to maintain stability.
