Your Neighbours- Are You Lucky Or Unlucky??

I live in a mid terrace house in a row of 7 houses. On one side is a divorced guy, at work most of the time, lovely guy who visits family mostly on his days off. On the other side is a lovely couple who are about 70 & have 3 adult sons. Youngest lives nearby with his wife & kids. Middle one is an ex-drug addict who is clean now, lives alone nearby & comes round to his parents every single day to spend the day there,in the garden if it's dry. He is on a medication which makes him shout absolutely everything he says, don't know how or why but it does, so every single word he says whether to them, or on fone, he is so loud he may as well be stood next to me. All day, every day. Eldest son is 50 & has Downs Syndrome - has never and will never leave home. Very outgoing man, heavily into dancing & announced last year that he was transgender (his exact words). Insists on putting on dancing performances several times a week in their garden for their family, along with music, and singing. When I go to get in the car he will often rush out to show me, or any visitor to my house, his latest handbag, or outfit, whether you want to see it or not, or are in a hurry or not lol. Next door but one are aged v late 40's with 3 boys but still obsessed with trance music (think Ibiza rave 20 years ago!). Gets to about 5/6pm and then they put their music on . As loud as humanly possible!! Doof doof doof doof...!!!! For several hours, on and on and on..... plus the medicinal cigarettes that accompany them! Ahem.....
My point is that it is not quiet where I am - sitting in the garden for a peaceful afternoon does not exist, and that isn't me moaning at my neighbours - it's merely a statement. My MIL on the other hand said the other day that is it so so quiet where she lives that you can hear a pin drop!
So what's it like where you live? And would you rather have a wacky selection of neighbours and their noises, or utter silence??

That sounds quite a mixture, Smow! There are 20 flats/ houses where I live and it is quiet apart from the three little football daft boys next door (though not troublesome) and hearing a dog barking now and then. There are quite a lot of delivery vans coming and going but great window glazing keeps any traffic noise away. Suits me 😊
Ive live in a high rise and only know most of the residents on nodding terms despite having lived here for 12 years.
However theres a half dozen of us who can call upon each other in a crises and we spend time together often (so that will be friends then lol)
Had a few issues with drugies every now and then but on the who it quiet and peacefull.
Theres also a few foreigners here and without exeption, they have been great neighbours.
Nie and peaceful here, other than when the folks at the bottom of the garden are out. They have the most obnoxious broad Hull accents, and very loud with it. Other times it's just the bees buzzing and horses clip clopping past. This time of year Mr Farmer is gathering in, so a pretty non stop tractor going past for a few days.
I like it here, detached with decent neighbours either side, and just open fields out front.

I hate moaning about next door, if it sounds like that, but it just gets a bit much when it's a nice day. My garden is my little sanctuary when I'm in pain(my spine), or just genuinely love being out there, but when the sun is shining and I have the chance to sit outside for a bit and all I can hear is the guy next door doing one of his 'cabarets' for his family, at full volume, with them encouraging it then it's v frustrating lol.
I can't stand selfish people who inflict their 'music' on other people. I'm lucky to have a very quiet neighbour. I also live opposite a pub which can get a bit noisy at times, but it's not too bad.
I had a very noisy neighbour years ago who drove me nutty by blasting out Elvis from 5 every morning. I couldn't stand that again.
Until 8 mths ago we had great neighbours, 2 kids, but good ones, helpful, approachable and we chatted & bought Xmas pressies of sweets. We are fortunate that we live in a good village where neighbours are friendly and helpful.
Alas, nice next-door-neighbours moved to a bigger house 10 miles away (more room for kids and nearer school), and they have been replaced witha real weirdo. I try not to feel as if he is a spider sitting quietly in his web next door. 28/9 yrs old, single and living alone, but with a daughter and partner who live with her mum in Driffield. Doesn't speak. Walks across road when setting out for a walk so he doesn't pass us.
Freaking Sara out (across the road) 'cos he works from home and sits staring at his computer or her out of thewindow. He's 29, an accountant and works from home.
He hascomplained- officially to the county dog warden -about dog noise by our terrier (we've been here nearly 10 yrs with no complaint and other neighbours. Didn't bother having a word with us first. All our other neighbours are prepared to swear that dog behaves perfectly normally and isnot a nuisance in any way.
He makes me want to feel that I want to move! And I have friendsand love it here. :(
His infamy is spreading - a couple of village chaps doing some painting (free) on the Community Centre exterior walls reported that he walked straight through the pair of them, despite their warnings and greetings of 'Hello'. Henever answered. He just doesn't talk.
I'll be going to bed now and Ican guarantee that by 10.30 p.m. his music will start hammering through our bdroom wall. :(
Do you know there is a law against loud music keeping neighbours awake at night after 11pm Jourdain? Have a word with your local Council.

I feel lucky where I live in one of 14 retirement bungalows. We all know each other by name, send Christmas cards to each other and apart from a few who like to have birthday barbeques in the garden with their family, it's usually pretty quiet. It's also a Close so a no-through road. I'm happy that I will be spending my later years here.
