Lung Operation

I have copd and a carcinoid in my right lung. Have been told an operation is the only treatment for the carcinoid but afterwards I will be more prone to chest infections and my breathing problems due to the COPD will be the same. Am in a quandary what to do. Keep myself busy during the week, still drive etc. So is it quality or quantity of life.

Wolfe is bang on.  I have COPD also jw and that is the choice I would make.  I hope all goes as well for you as possible. xx

You need more information.  Also is there a long term pulmonary rehab clinic for after surgery.  There's a fair bit of evidence a structured rehab programme can increase lung function my up to 15% and the same programmes help copd. Shoulders the effects of surgery.

Personally I think I would go for the op.  A friend of mine with COPD had a heart bypass op and has enjoyed (and is still enjoying) a number of reasonably healthy years since.
