Hi

Why are we told that to aid dieting we should drink 8 or so glasses of water a day.

I know the obvious health benefits of drinking water (our body needs it for flushing toxins etc etc) but how can it aid dieting and am i unlikely to lose weight if I dont drink plenty of water?

thanks

I thin it's because drinking a glass of water before you eat is supposed to fill yuo up so that you don't feel so hungry. there's also a school of thought that says that quite often people eat because they think they are hungry, when in fact they are thirsty. I tried having a glass of water every time I thought I wanted to nibble something, and I found it does actually work. I'm also told that drinking loads is good if you tend to 'hold water'. Apparantly, your body needs water to dilute the acids that you take in in food etc. If you don't drink enough to flush things out properly, your body retains what little there is in your system to try to keep the acidity down to a manageable level. It sounds perverse to drink loads if you are all watery and bloaty, but that really DOES work!
Also it keeps your colon hudrated and stops you getting dieters constipation.
