yes i have heard of this but i was chatting to a friend about it the other day and we both agreed that we didnt think it would be reliable. have any abers done this test? what does it involve and what did you think?

I don't know why it couldn't be done over a good quality telephone, although I hadn't thought of it before. I have the exam once a year in order to hold a First Class medical certificate here in the U.S. required to be an air carrier pilot. The test, even if accomplished in an office setting, is basically done using earphones through which the signals are transmitted. Sounds suspiciously like a telephone to me...

Good luck, by the way...

I've done the telephone test, and it told me I have good hearing. Frankly, I consider myself to have excellent hearing as I can hear a biscuit tin being stolen from the cupboad while I'm taking a shower upstairs, and chocolate hobnobs being crunched mercilessly quickly before I've had time to get back downstairs; I would call that, superhero type hearing hearing, or STH. However, maybe the telephone test only gives a 'good', 'bad', 'poor' or 'you need to see a doctor' diagnosis.

I have also tried to bamboozle my husband into doing the test to to prove to him that he is in fact as deaf as a post and should go for a hearing test. He refuses to go as he knows that he has hearing loss from a test done years ago and it's only got worse. jI've tried to explain that hearing aids are really tiny these days and you'll never notice them...but he just refuses. Maybe I'll trick him with the telephone test instead ring the number and....."It's for your dear.....I said, it's for you........"

You go to an audiologist for a hearing test, btw, as already said by Shaneystar.......!
I did the test out of curiousity. Even though it said my hearing was normal, I struggled to hear quite a few of them - I'd be suprised if anyone could hear all of them. I would recommend going to a proper audiologist.
our local Specsavers do hearing tests!
A teenagers bedrrom. well, it's where all the deaf people seem to be as soon as anything needs doing.
