Enlarged pupils

Apart from drug taking, is there any other cause for enlarged pupils. I have noticed on TV lately that loads of people have them from all walks of life and all ages, even a photo of a murdered middle-class girl in the 60's. I suppose it is feasible that they have all taken something but it is a bit of a coincidence!

Well theres the obvious one of pupils dilating when there is an absence of light, but I�ve also heard that your pupils dilate when you are looking at someone you like. Not sure whether I should believe this one or not though, because what you happen if you were in a really bright room staring at someone you adored? Would you pupils be indecisive and get intermittently small & large?! Plus I doubt the murdered girl was looking at her killer with weapon in hand thinking �I say, he looks rather nice�

Well no, the murdered girl's photo was from happier times, and most of the people I've noticed are in studio lights or sunshine. Beats me.

I have enlarged pupils. They suddenly went like that a few years ago. I had loads of tests and the optician couldn't figure out what was causing it, but it doesn't seem to be doing me any harm. The only problem is that I'm less tolerant of bright sunlight than other people and have to always keep sunglasses in my car. My optician joked that everyone would assume I fancied them!

thei dea of the whole puils enlarging when you look at someone you like or are about to have sex with, is that its your body sayinhg I want to take more of that in!!

I was always led to believe that short sighted people had large pupils which made their eyes look very attractive. Years ago short sighted people always wore glasses (not contact lenses) so I don't remember noticing their eyes - and would contact lenses decrease the pupil size? Is this all a myth?

This was the result from a fight. He was actually born with two blues eyes. Now one is browny/green with a constantly large pupil. Isn't he handsome.

well pupils don't really dilate as such its the iris that dilates or contracts. the pupil is the space between the iris and the black bit is the retina at the back of the eye. Thats pedantic of course.
Its true that your pupils do enlarge if you fancy someone or if you are looking into the distance. I suppose you can make them dilate yourself if you want but of course in order to see that yourself you would need to focus in close and therefore you would narrow the pupil.
When you die your muscles relax and I guess your pupils do as well who knows!

Bondy is also right that when you die, or more specifically when you are 'brain dead' your pupils will dilate to the maximum and stay that way. This sign, known as 'fixed and dilated pupils', is one that medical staff look for in diagnosis of brain injury and death.

No matter what the cause, I do find them attractive.
