I have just seen this in my hairdressers price list and was wondering if anyone has ever had it done/knows if i can find any photos of the results online? I assume it's like permenant straighting but obviously making your hair wavy but I'm curious to know how wavy it makes your hair. Is it very damaging to hair as if it looks like I think it will I might get it done...

It's a perm! Like the blue rinse brigade have, or like in the 80s when we just left it curly with a wetlook gel on, yes it damages your hair, it can be a long perm but that is silly these days!

I must admit I didn't think anyone had perms anymore and haven't seen them advertised for years.

In the dark ages (late 1950's and 60's!) perm lotion was very strong - mostly ammonia - but nowadays the solution is as gentle as the modern colourants, so unless your hair is in dreadful condition it's perfectly safe. The wave or curl will depend on the size of the rod used. Your hair stylist will tell you more so do have a chat with him or her if you are concerned.

Apparently the perm is coming 'in' again,I heard. Once again I will be in fashion, through no fault of my own, unfortunately I peaked in the 80's ...

I must be getting old - I thought that mermaid was having a laugh!

How can anyone not know what a perm is?! But then again, I must admit that I haven't seen/heard of them on anyone under 60 since about 1985 (when it was virtually compulsary to have one!)

oh..right! I think I was having a ditzy moment there- I thought it was just making your hair wavy permanently as opposed to a proper perm! Well that's set me straight..don't think I'll be having one after all...!!!
Mermaid, a permenant wave is a proper perm! Its there, until it grows out. I have had many a bad perm in my teens. Brian May had nothing compared to mine!
