Wisdom teeth

Hi.
I have really sore wisdom teeth, both at the back lower part of the back of my mouth. They are not sore all of the time but every now and again they do get really sore. I have spoken with my dentist and she made an appointment to get them out, by the time it got to the appointment date my mouth wasn't sore anymore. So I didn't fancy paying �50 each tooth if they weren't sore any more. Not only that but I'm a bit scared. Now they have become sore again and I want to know will I be able to put up with the intermediate pain until these grow in properly, or should I just "bite the bullet" and get it over and done with. The dentist said they are impacted, I take it this means surrounded in gum!

We dont need wisdom teeth anymore they date back from caveman times, mine have been coming through for years and every few months they are very painfull, but as they havent made my other teeth crooked I have put up with them, the pain lessons a little each time. so I'm hoping it will just stop hurting.

When they get sore boil some water, add a teaspoon of salt, wait for the water to cool down slightly then swill it around in your mouth. My dentist told me to do that and it does work. He recommended 4 times a day. Dentists usually try to avoid taking the lower wisdom teeth out if at all possible as they sit right on a nerve and are very painful.

I have suffered with this each time for all four teeth! (Im now having problems with the fourth one). Like ou i tried tried to avoid having them out but they continued to flare up and each time the gum around them became more infected and sore. I have had two out now and im awaiting the next two out. If they are impacted then they'l never come through as a normal tooth as there isnt enough space as i understand. Hence, this problem could persist on and on!

If your wisdom teeth are trulky impacted they will not erupt (come through in line with the other teeth). This can be due to several reasons, insufficient space in the dental arch, or an obstruction due to the orientation of the tooth as it erupts.

The person who mentioned that their repeat episodes of pain lessened is probably mereley referring to a slowly erupting tooth which isn't impacted. The reason you get repeat pain/infections is because the gum overyling the tooth acts as a site for food debri and plaque to accumulate. Unfortunately in alot of cases each episode is more severe, its down to you as an individual to decide whether are not to have the teeth removed. It is likely however at some point that you will get a more severe infection and may be prompted to have them removed at that time.
