Recently (13 weeks ago) i gave birth to a beautiful son. I had a tear that the midwife said "Its only a scratch so i'll not stitch it" Yeah well that scratch has left me with a split vaginal lip. Has this happened to anyone else out there. I was unaware that you could split here and am a bit upset. Does it affect anything?

Get right back to your GP and kick up.You poor soul it should have healed by now if it were a scratch.I had an epesiotompy (sp?) with my two but that was cut surgically and stitched in the delivery suite. It healed pretty quick.Doubt if it would affect anything but it can be rectified now.Good Luck

Drisgirl thanks for your reply. I dont think I have explained myself well. The scratch has indeed healed well. But it is split in two.
I would still get it looked over - just in case you are thinking of having more family at least.Take it everything else is back to normal.
I don't really think you can expect to be the same after giving birth, some women have it far worse than you but by the sound of it you probably should have had a stitch. It probably won't cause any problems but it may be that you will need cosmetic surgery to put it right. What do I know, I've never given birth but I have attended the births of my six children?
My wife had an issue resulting from birth not very different from yours. She had surgery to correct the issue and she and I both are glad that she did. Go talk to your doctor!
The woman who was my anti-natal yoga teacher told us that after her first child she was badly torn and the suturing (stitches) were poorly done; she was left in pain every time she had sex. After the birth of her second child she told them to do a proper job of suturing because she wanted her sex life back. She warned us not to allow anyone below the rank of registrar to touch us when doing the suturing! If you are in pain etc. then I would certainly let my GP know about it!
I'm not sure if it would affect anything, but since there is still a split, I'd imagine there'd be a risk that you would tear again in the same place if you gave birth again. For that reason, it may be best to get it checked out. If you're not planning on anymore kids, you're not in pain/discomfort, and your sex life is unaffected, then I don't think you need to worry. It may look a bit unusual, but then those bits down there do really, don't they? Congrats on your lovely son. xx
snap hun ive got the same as you it doesnt bother me at all but you know its not right like it used to be
and me! i also have a scar! my down below bits look like they've been in a fight! (so my husband tells me) im just glad i cant see em!
