Try adjusting your diet. Cut out dairy produce - substitute vegetable oil spread and soya milk, and eliminate spicy food - you should see an improvement. Before bed, have a warm bath with some emolient oil - your chemist will advise, and your skin should start to improve.
I used to suffer from this a lot when I was younger and only occasionally have problems now. I try whenever possible to eat a handful of raisins or sultanas every day. This has helped a great deal over the years and has been successful for other members of my family. I would try to avoid long term use of hydrocortison
I have rotten eczema and I know just how you feel. Stress makes it worse, and the worse it gets, the more stressed you get. Have you tried oatmeal in the bath? You put some oatmeal in stocking (ask your wife if you don't have your own!), tie a knot in it and loop it over the bath tap so that the warm water runs through it, then put it in the bath when it's full. Try to have at least one oatmeal bath a day, you should see an improvement after 2-3 days. To help you sleep, you could always try Phenergan Elixir from the pharmacist. It's an old-style antihistamine, so it has a sedative effect and helps stop the itching. Good luck. Try not to scratch too much!
I used to get it on my shins (yes I know it's and odd place) and used Eumovate as recommended and it has gone (so far ie 3 months). http://www.skinflare-up.com/ Is their site.
consult chinese dietry medicine information. I knew someone whose eczema cleared up after adjusting their diet.
Drink wheatgrass juice. Works a treat.
Try a Zinc supplement.

thanks for all your answers and be sure i will try them all?
Try skin cremes (not lotions) that are unscented. Eucerin is good. Plain old regular Crisco shortening (all vegetable type without butter flavoring) works best. It's straight moisturizer without any additives, which can irritate the skin. I have severe eczema & this works well for me, as well as the oatmeal baths mentioned above by stephaniel.
Hi snotmonkey,

I know this is an old question and I'm sure you must be coping better now that you have had some things to try - but I figured all information is useful at any time. I (like youself) have tried hydrocortisone cream but this is not something I like to use often and I've just dicovered something that really helps the eczema I have been plagued with on my palms.

If you have some smallish areas that are particulary angry, I can recommend Witch Doctor Gel smoothed on before settling down for the night. By morning, they are less red, less sore and certainly less itchy! I thought that the witch hazel would dry the skin out too much, as it is a natural astringent, but in fact this is not the case. The deeper layers of skin are quite smooth and it seems to hasten the drying out of the top dead cells.

Hope this information is useful - but IMHO anything's worth a try when you have this unpleasant condition. Good lick!

Natural oils are used for soothing and itching. One can apply olive oil and avocado oil directly to the scalp. Keep this on body for half and hour and than remove this with gentle or natural shampoo. Do this every couple of days for best results. While this mixture may not completely clear your eczema but it is very effective that will reduce itching. There are some best eczema remedies in Internet.
