I know similar questions have been asked already but, having decided my huge flabby belly makes me look pregnant and not being able to afford gym prices, I have decided to invest in a celeb fitness dvd. I don't want anything to extreme or too hard to follow as a) I'm very unfit and b) I severly lack motivation!

I've had a look at some on Amazon and can't decide between either of the Angela Griffin ones or the Charlie Brooks one or even the Colleen one! I have a couple of yoga dvds which I love but I think I need something that's going to make me sweat if I want to lose the flab!!

Any advice chums?

Personally I would save your money and don't bother with these videos. Buy yourself a device that measures how many steps you walk each day (pedometer or stepometer or whetever they're called) and aim to do 10,000 steps a day. Use the stairs whenever possible (knackering if you're not used to it but the best way to burn calories) and eat sensibly.

That's my opinion but I'm not too keen on giving my money to the diet-fitness video industry. if any of it worked long term then they wouldn't keep bringing out new ones. it's that cynical Saturday feeling.

I agree with Buckaroo2. Don't waste your money, these "celebs" are not trained instructors. Walking is free and the best exercise. Eat sensibly and the weight will drop off you. Good Luck. Amanda.

I can recommend the latest one by Davina, it gives you a choice of three 30 minute workouts. They are easy and effective.

I bought the Charlie Brooks one, and it's quite long and complicated, 5 different sections all linked that have complicated steps.

This is a sort of two pronged answer. I don't believe in the fitness DVD's either however, Mrs Philtaz has been doing the Charlie Brooks DVD for 3 weeks and as someone who has never been fitness/sport orientated in any manner(her words, not mine!) I have to say the results for her have been more than favourable.

One girl in work did the Davina one and walked like Douglas Baader for a few days, another had to spend a week walking down stairs backwards!

I have used work out dvds for years. Not continually! But I dont see anything wrong with them.. They motiviate you to get in a routine. I have the first Davina workout, which is really good. Makes you walk like a crab in handcuffs for the first few days after using it, but once you get past that, you will be fine.

Watched the Gaby logan workout, but she is far too patronising, and the new Davina workout which I also looked at is very good, as its in parts. So maybe a better option for you.

Do what I did, (tightwad) join a free trial with the dvd rentals you can do online, try the dvd, and if you dont like it. Dont buy it!

Good luck!

If you lack motivation don't bUy a DVD or home gym because you will not get the encouragemt from them that you need. And I totally agree with the earlier comment that those who aren't used to exercising go hell-for-leather when they first try and end up with long term problems which then become an even bigger demotivator.

YOU will have to find an acceptable practical reason that will make you WANT TO CHANGE YOUR LIFESTYLE.

You may laugh but something like Tai Chi(the gentle art) is a good start. It helps balance and is also a social thing and I think that getting together with others of similar ilk can be a motivator in itself .

Set small goals of weight loss and exercise and be patient. Walk DON'T RIDE - there must be something that will make the effort seem worthwile. A LONGER BETTER LIFE might be worth considering.

Not all of us can afford the gym. A one off payment for dvd is sometimes more affordable. I would love to go to the gym, but with family commitments cant afford to do so, so I say,go for the Davina workout. I have also used it. I am in pretty good shape. But also committed to doing it regularly.

Thanks for all your answers but I'm surprised at so many people trying to talk me out of this because they don't think buying dvds are worth it/effective! My question was about advice on those particular dvds, not whether I should buy one to help with my weight-loss - sorry if anyone misunderstood the question!
Hi helliebobs, buying a fitness DVD is a fantastic idea. I went through the same thing as you at the start of the new year, and i'll share my findings with you. I bought 2 DVD's, the Angela Griffin one and the Charlie Brooks one. I did the Charlie Brooks one first and pulled all the muscles in my tummy as i didn't think the warm up was good and if your a bit unfit like i was it's far to hardcore. As for the Angela Griffin it is so good that i'm still doing it which means it must be good becuaes i usually give up afetr a fortnight with boredom. I have since bought the first Angela Griffin one as well, so one week i do the first DVD and the second week the next one and so on. It is such a good DVD, it gets you dancing around, burning fat and generally having a good time. I 100% recommend it. Hope that helps Mel x
