Dear all

I am thinking of paying for some treatment to get rid of (a lot of) unwanted hair from my back. Does anyone know firstly which is better for this, of the two above? I have been told neither are permanent.

Also, does anyone know any decent companies/websites I ought to check out that perform this treatment?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Both will be costly and time consuming for a large area such as a back, however I think Laser would be the most appropriate treatment. The reason for this is because electrolosis deals with individual hair follicles so each hair would have to be treated separately, Laser deals with areas approx 2cm squared at a time.

As you've said there's no guarantee of permanency, however if you complete a full course of treatment there's a good chance you'll have a significant difference - most people who carry out Laser treatment recommend a miminum of 6 treatments.

As for finding somewhere. There is a legal requirement for all establishments offering laser hair removal to be registered with the Healthcare Commission. Unfortunately, not everywhere is registered so do check. They will not be insured should something go wrong. Also check the qualifications of the person carrying out the treatment. It's really worth ensuring they have a minimum of a BTEC rather than having attending just a day course. This way they will have better knowledge of skin care/reaction. A good salon will also advise you on your suitability - results will depend upon skin and type/colour. A patch test should also be done. Don't pay out for any course unless your suitability has been properly assessed.

Good luck.
