I take the contraceptive pill and I'm currently on the 7 day break, due to start my next packet next Weds, but I can't get an appointment at the docs for 2 weeks!! My friend said you can get an emergency supply (like a months worth) from the pharmacy in cases like this. Is this true?

im not sure about an emergency supply, but is there not anywhere else you can go in your area? family planning clinics are usually dotted around the place open at least once every week. you can get a supply easily from there. or try telling your doctor you need an emergency apointment and explain why. this might work.

Why do you have to see doctor, dont you just have a repeat prescription??

a repeat prescription has never been offered to me. I'll have to ask when I finally get to see my doctor!

Phone up and speak to the receptionist to explain and the Dr can write you up a months worth without you having to see him and you collect it from the surgery! I did it once and they were fine about it. They dont let me have it on repeat perscription as I suffer with migraines so they like me to have a check every 6 months to make sure I'm ok on the pill still.

I only ever go see the doctor once a year for my pill assessment. Everything else just done through pharmacy :-)

the surgery i go to lets you write a note with your name, address and medication on which you take to where you hand in repeat prescriptions. after checking with your gp they then process it within a few days. the surgery has a pharmacy on the premises so i guess you cant do that everywhere.

some GP's are not willing to offer repeats on the contraceptive pill which is a good thing as BP should be monitored as well as weight.

Asteroid99 if u cannot get a repeat from surgery without appointment, you can take a packet along with you with your name on it and pharmacist should give you enough to cover you. I have done this with medications before.
