I can't breathe...

I was involved in a car accident three weeks ago today. I walked away with just whiplash (and hit my chest on the steering wheel). My back has hurt badly for the last two weeks (at the top between my shoulder blades), I've never had a problem with my back previously and now it's too painful to even look over my shoulder.

On Friday evening, it started to feel like the pain from my back was spreading into the right side of my chest. It was so painful to breathe I ended up at A&E (not the best night for it!!). I was given a chest X-ray as the doctor suspected I had a collapsed lung, but everything looked normal. He said that maybe it's delayed internal bruising, but surely not three weeks later?

Does anyone have any ideas as I'm still struggling for breath. I can actually breathe but it's agony to take a proper breath.

Thanks everyone in advance. x

Cant be normal tell them you want a second opinion!

When your body was going into "accident" mode, it caused many of your muscles to severely tense up in preparation. This can cause suffering days and weeks after the accident.

i would suggest you consult a chiropractor. They work wonders on tense muscles and maybe some misalignments in your body.

i developed a chest infection a few weeks after a minor prang as the seat belt had pressed on my chest and irritated and bruised my lungs - it could be that?
Are you taking any pain relief? I had internal bruising after an accident, didn't take that long to come tho, but I was advised to take neurofen as it is a pain killer and anti-inflammatory. I seem to remember taking it for a few weeks, so the bruising must have taken a while to go.

Thanks for your concern and your replies. Have continued taking painkillers and seems to be easing now, so maybe it was 'delayed' bruising!

Thanks again all of you x
