There was an old man of Stamboul
Who soliloquised thus to his tool:
'You've taken my wealth
And destroyed all my health,
Now you won't even pee, you old fool'

i think it is the reverse of Quizmonster's answer.
It is a fact that during an erection it is impossible for a man to urinate. Accordingly, i think it is nature's way of preventing a man from urinating during his sleep (and dreams) when his bladder is full.
Think about it. If Quizmonster's answer were correct then the man wouldn't ever be able to pee because his full bladder would always be keeping the erect penis from relaxing to the point where peeing was possible. In fact, there have been many times during waking hours that i've had a full bladder but it never caused an erection.
