doesn't

clever

As an official cleaver person I take exception to you trying to change my description. Are your related to the word butcher?

Anyway as to the answer - is it Le Nerd? Or Un Nerd.

It could be "ringard", or even "un plouc" ( a bit more familiar ). If you mean nerd as in geek, you can say he's "un fou de l'informatique" ( as in computer crazy ), or something.....

I found a translation but it has several meanings, your friend may not appreciate you telling those darn frenchies that he is a crtin (personne peu intelligente) as it can also mean something entirely different.
"un intello" ? (I don't think nerds are 'peu intelligent', quite the reverse, though their intelligence takes precedence over their social skills). 'ringard', yes, that too: uncool, square; 'plouc' to me is a redneck or a yokel.
Someone has removed an answer - mine doesn't make sense any more!
