Advice given to me was not to follow the usual 24 hours starvation for very young children. Let him drink plenty of water and weak juice or Cola, and when he feels like eating let him have some toast or something bland. Children won't usually want to eat if they feel ill so if they want to eat its a good indication that it's OK to do so.

I hope he feels better tomorrow. However, because of his age do take him to the doctors if he shows no improvement by tomorrow, or gets worse at any time.

Best wishes.

This advice was given by my GP, by the way.

I heard that plain rice was good for a tummy bug,

Also im no doctor, but I would of thought the sugar in coke would not be good, because thats what bacteria feeds off... incase it was something like gastro.. dont know for sure though!

Hope he feels better soon!

I don't starve my kids. Just think - when you have a tummy bug don't you sometimes feel better if you have had something to eat or drink?

Flat coke is good - yes I know about the sugar - it does seem to settle the stomach

pepsi was invented as a cure for the stomach disease dispesimol so yes it is good for stomachs

Apparently the sugar in Coke, together with other things, helps to rehydrate. Those little packets of Diarite (sp.?) which you can buy from the chemist for upset tummies contain sugars and salt to combat dehydration and replace the sugars and salts that are lost.

a hospital junior doctor said that 7 up was the best cure for an upset stomach
Yes, I've heard 7-up is a good cure too

thanks all, I looked on the netdoctor site and it seems the thing recommended now is ginger ale and plain crisps!

Here goes.................!

Question Author

well that has worked a treat!

He drank a small cup of ginger ale (which i'd de-fizzed) and half a packet of plain crisps. He really enjoyed them and it also cheered him up as it must have felt like a bit of a treat!

Anyway, he kept them down and the sugar gave him an energy boost too, he was running around with his sister!

He had a little plain boiled rice for his tea and has gone to bed saying he feels better!

Who is the heck starves there kids when there sick?? Not me.. If they cant eat because there sick then keep the fluids high.. and if they dont want to drink then try peia-lite... its great... and its not flat coke its gingarel if I spelled that right.. haha... and coke wouldnt help keep your child Hydrated because caffine is a diarretic.. and you cant give a child aspertain because of many bad reasons..

stick to foods that are low acidic.. Good luck with your little one.. I know its tuff to see them sick.. I have been there a million times..
