Has anyone had experience with personal trainers, I know they are all different but I just want to know whether it is/was worth the money?

Did you get what you wanted out of it? Or was it better to stick to the gym alone?

Thanks (Must be a subliminal fitness guilt trip going on, just saw gym post)

Hello Greedyfly- Well if you have the money I would totally stick with a personal trainer, but it is very exspesive. If not, I would meet with a personal trainer once or twice in the begining to get some pointers, techniques, a schedule etc, and then go about it on your own for a while. Maybe once a month or so meet with the trainer again to touch base and make sure you are doing everything you should be correctly, and efficiently. It's a nice balance, and more affordable for the average person. xxcheers
The personal trainer is largely irrelevant, it's about you, it's about your motivation. The trainer can encourage, suggest things, design programs and wipe your 4rse while you do them but only you can actually put in the work, it's you that has to stick to the routine and the nutrition. They help they give you someone to not want to dissapoint and they motivate, that's really what you are paying for.

Bottom line they are a lot of expense that you can avoid with a bit of self discipline.

A Persoanl Trainer is the right idea... Trainers are well schooled in body mechanics and physiology.. I know where I am from Trainers have to be ACE and BCRPA certified ((lots of schooling!!)).. the next step would be in the medical feild there so knowledgeable..

Trainers take your body type, your health level, your fitness level, your available time to work out, your health past and risk you may have, and they also take in to consideration if you have had any injuries in the past or to recover from now.. and even if you have had a baby natural or C-section that needs special attention. Trainers take all that information from you and turn it into a work out plan that will help and motivate you to reach your short term and long term goals.. they will also be there for you when your not into exercising or when your feeling very blue about your self.. a trainer is trained to know the science of the body and how to motivate there clients. People do not need trainers for life.. endless your in a certain sport.... A trainer is there to educate you in what is best for you to reach your fitness goals.. and lead a better, healthier life!

But remember.. not every trainer is perfect with everybody.. make sure you connect to your trainer.. if your a female you might like a female trainer better..

So good luck!!! keep motivated.. and remeber.. you only get out of it what you put into it!!!.. and 75-78% of our beautiful bodys is what we eat... so ... keep an eye on the food..

anyways HAVE A GREAT DAY!!! jen

i had 5 sessions with a personal trainer when i joined my gym and at first i didnt want them - thought it would be embarassing etc. but im really glad that i did. they set you up a programme totally suited to you and what you want to achieve. they show you all sorts of things you may not have known, and you can play with trial and error. there were some things i got shown that i just didnt get on with, so my personal trainer worked out other ways of achieving the same things. it really made me want to work hard because i was putting back in the hard work that my personal trainer had shown me and if you write down what you achieved last time it makes you work harder to try and beat it.

I didnt carry on with personal training sessions just because of the money issues really, but even though i've stopped it means theres someone that im happy to ask questions to if i ever need to. keeps me on my toes cos he comes and checks up on me sometimes too!! if you can afford it i'd definitely go for it!
