hi there, is this the molluscum contagiousum? (not sure of spelling, i'm afraid). If it is, my daughter had these too and gave them to her cousin. Apparently, most children have them at any one time. We didn't get any cream at all the doctor just said they were harmless and they would go away once she was about 2-3. Amazingly, just after her second birthday, I realised she didn't have them anymore but I didnt remember them fading. weird.

Lots of kids have them and they are very contagious, they are rife in all schools. But, they don't do any harm and do not hurt at allas far as I know. They should dissappear in about a year. Encourage her not to pick them. My daughter had one that got really big and then was half hanging off so I thought it was ready to come off and pulled it. It now has left a tiny scar (about 3mm across) in the croock of her elbow. It doesn't notice, but of course I know it's there and it makes me feel awful!

hope this helps, and sorry if I have got the wrong thing.

Not 100% sure of the symptoms of molloscum but I use aqueous cream on ezcema to no avail....I tried hydracortisone cream (not on the face) every few days and E45 every day. Seems to be clearing it up :) best check with docs before you use though...

oopss.... Sudocream should stop any dry itchin if that is happening

If it appears to be getting worse go straight back to your doctor especially if it is becoming red around the spots as your daughter might have scratched a spot and caused an infection (quite common). My nephew had this and if it becomes infected she will need an antiseptic cream to clear it up and stop the itching.

Unfortunately it can last for up to 2 years but only usually lasts for a couple of months.

In the meantime dont share towels with your granddaughter; encourage her not to scratch; and above all make sure that whoever touches them to put the cream on washes their hand immediately afterwards to prevent cross infection.

I saw something on a program which featured a boy with molluscum and his mum used methyl sulphonyl methane (MSM) cream on them, and they cleared up quite quickly. The important ingredient is sulphur which is widely felt to be good to the skin (I would agree, I've used it on my spots and always felt it did a decent job). They certainly used to sell it in Holland and Barratts in a biggish pot although I couldn't find it on their website just now, but i did find it here . It is more expensive than E45 or similar, but not ridiculously expensive (about 10 for 150ml).
