How do you break up the weekly monotomy of working 9-5 and then by the time you get in and cook dinner it's time to go to bed?

Sorry, it's time to go to bed once you have cooked dinner? How long does it take you to travel from work? It would help us make suggestions if you could clarify what time you usually arrive home.

I do know what you mean though, sometimes I feel that all I do is work and sleep.

Sorry, a slight exaggeration there. Say i get in about 6/half 6 and then by the time i've cooked and eaten dinner it's half 7, then there's only about an hour and a half free (usually taken up by tv) before starting to think about going to bed coz i've gotta be up early again.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for things to do which make the weeks more interesting and not all the same!

And if i do do anything in that hour and a half (like food shopping) that's the evening gone!

Do something different after dinner and when the children are in bed...like scrabble!!

Make sure you load up your entertainment at the weekend, so that the monotony of the week is a welcome relief!

Other than that...maybe change the way you think of it! ie, the monotomy of the week could be 'the calm. steady pattern of the week!'

Or maybe I'm just talking rubbish!

I know how you feel, I think most people do. It is a bad time of year. But things are about to change! With lighter and warmer evenings you will feel more energised, and more likely to do other things in the evenings. Practically speaking, you could also prepare your dinner the night before- make twice as much of something then you can just heat it up the next day, to save cooking. Or buy some things that you can just chuck in the oven for half an hour when you get in. Do you have flexitime? Could you ask your boss if you could work late on one day and go home early another?

You could also make plans to do things in the evening- meet a mate for a drink and meal after work. Go to the cinema. Also, by leaving the TV off and listening to the radio or music you will have to find other things to do rather than sit comatose waiting for bed.

Make a list of things you love doing and build them into your week so you have something to look forward to. And by doing it with a friend you will be less likely to cancel. You could also join a gym (!) and go straight after work. This will give you more energy, believe it or not and you will feel so great when you come out!

why don't you invest in a slo cooker. You can put dinner on before you go to work and it'll be ready for the minute you get in, you could eat straight away and won't need to cook and there will be very little washing up. Alternatively, eat a main meal at lunchtime and prepare a sandwich for the evening in the morning, same as, it'll be ready for when you get in, no cooking or cleaning.

My husband works up in town and we live on the south coast, it takes him about 2.5 hours to get there and the same home. He has quite a pressured job and often works overtime, he often doesn't get home until about 9.30 sometimes midnight, often the wee hours. It really is time for bed then!

good luck with the way you're feeling.
sorry, posted before I saw scarlett's post. Same thing really. Ooops.
I work 9 - 8 most days and work 6 days a week lol - thats monotomy lmao. I dont break it up, I just whinge about it alot and then get on with it and hope that I will eventually sort out my life lol.
I agree though it does wear you down somtimes.
I love the monotony of a 9-5 job. Its ******* great the way I am so normal that I do nothing more exciting than work, cook, tv, sex, sleep. What more is there? They are all the things we enjoy?? What would you do if you didnt have these??? Work to get money, cook to eat ( I love eating, even fast food), tv is great, what a way to bury your head in the sand and forget your troubles, sex is fab, even on your own and sleep is like a trial run for death, magic.
Maybe signing up for an interesting evening class one night a week would help to break the monotony.
my neighbour (and friend) talked about just this nearly 2 years ago and we suggested that midweek we could do something to break up the week. so, since then, every single wednesday evening..we have a Bacardi night!! we take turns to buy all the goodies for the evening (bacardi, coke, crisps, ice, lemon..etc). it is wonderful..we catch up on work, family, health, the neighbours!! sometimes i cook a pasta meal and she brings me flowers..its a lovely midweek treat..oh and also..the men and kids stay well out of sight on a wednesday..homework out the way, dishes done, uniforms ready for next day etc..try this, its great!!
