never having tried any other, i find weightwatchers quite good. last time i went to it, i lost a stone and a half in twelve weeks. so far this time, i've lost 13lbs in 7wks.
Naturally it's all about changing your habits (my mental health/psychologist friends have discussed it to death)
with weightwatchers you get a points system, where different foods = different points. eg. apple=0.5, walkers lites=1.5, chicken tikka masala=20, many veg=0. you're allowed a certain number of points each day, depending on your weight.
the important thing is keeping track of what you're eating. that's what the points system makes you do, and there are ways to make it not-boring. if you can get rid of your bad habits, you're on your way. no food is disallowed.
but as with any proper weight loss - it's all about eating less (less points, not less food) and excercising more - even a little helps in the beginning.
another thing the groups provide is a support network
: if you stay for the meetings after the (private) weighing each week, you'll find there's a certain camaraderie, people swap hints and recipes and experiences (if you're into that sort of thing....)
GOOD LUCK!
i found WW ok but i was hungry a lot, so if you like to eat a lot of food (like most over weight people) SW is for you a sample days food as follows
b/fast =2 weetabix with a muller light yogurt over them 1poached egg some grilled tomato& bacon slices
snack = fruit
lunch =sliced ham,some prawns, peice chicken & a big salad, fresh fruit salad & mullerlight yogurt
snack = fruit
dinner =8oz jacket potato , with chopped boiled egg in it gammon steak sprouts & carrots, sugar free jelly with chopped fresh fruit
snack = fruit
supper = ham slices with cottage cheese rolled up & cherry tomatoes
after all this you could still have a bar of chocolate and still lose weight

is what i ate the other day, without exceeding my points, on WW - i make sure i'm NEVER hungry, because as we all know, this is FATAL.
and so on a diet such as the above, (bearing in mind i'm a 6'2" 17st man, i am still losing 2lb per week. very good.
