GraceAnais has been helping us all smile and feel good today(thanks for that, Grace) so I thought I'd share what just happened while I was browsing here. The doorbell rang and there stood an old man and a girl of about 8 or 9. He introduced himself as the man from 2 doors down (we've only been in this house a few weeks) and said his granddaughter - the little girl - had been doing a clear out and as they'd heard we had two little girls would we like all these books and toys she has grown out of.
I thought this was really kind and neighbourly. there are still lots of good people- old and young - in the world.
p.s any ideas of what I could buy for the girl to say thank you?

A gift voucher in a really nice card would probably be best as you don't know her well enough to know her tastes. She will enjoy choosing something. There are loads of lovely people about - in fact most people are lovely and we unfortunately only hear about the small minority of those that aren't so nice.

Im sure this little girl wants nothing in return or she would have just sold toys, what a beautiful gesture. I would just make a thank you card so she knows that her thoughts and gifts were very much appreciated :-)
It seems that everyone is lovely on AB, especially today x
what a lovely thing to do. Sounds like your neigbours are going to be lovely at your new place, how nice is that?

How lovely ~ warms the cockles doesn't it? :o)

I would agree with the gift voucher suggestion ~ the little girl had outgrown her books & toys so she would now be able to replace them with something she is now old enough to choose for herself. I am sure she would love that.

ask the wee girl to tea when your kids all know each other better...how nice!

Thanks for the advice everybody. I'll probably go with the gift voucher idea and get my girls to make her a nice card. It was anice thing she did and I want her to know it was appreciated.
