I keep getting what I can only describe as "palpitations" where for no reason my heartbeat goes really fast for about 10-15minutes, sometimes longer. I've counted over 120 beats per minute and it is quite uncomfortable. I have made an appointment to see a doctor but would still appreciate any advice?

Im only 24, and in very good shape. I get the exact same thing, and it is terribly uncomfortable. I saw a doctor and have done several tests. I also had to wear a heart monitor for 24 hours. My test results have not come back yet. I hate it, and have no idea why it's doing this all of asudden. My mom thinks it is stress, but the worst part about it is that I don't feel stressed out! She said you don't have to "feel" stressed to be stressed. So I just have to wait around. Go to the doctors and see what they say. Good luck.
18 months ago my husband contracted a mysterious virus which for some reason caused his heart to misfunction. He had severe palpitations, missed heartbeats and blood pressure which rocketed all over the place. He ended up in hospital twice and it took a year for the virus to burn itself out of the his system. He's now thankfully almost back to normal. This isn't meant to frighten you - just to alert you to one possible cause.
Palpitations can be caused by all kinds of things and you're doing the sensible thing to get them checked out.

Do you by chance drink a lot of coffee or caffeine drinks, too much caffeine can cause this, including those high energy drinks, I suffered from same symptoms about 10 years ago, and was advised by my doctor to cut out the coffee and caffeine, The palpitations eventually subsided, although the withdrawal gave me hellish headaches. Good luck. Erm.

Sounds a bit like what Tony Blair had.
