Anyone any idea how long you stay in hospital for if you have your apendix out? xx

Hi lilposhgirl. I was in for five nights with mine in November. I had a drain too, not sure if that makes a difference x

Depends generally upon your age, whether it has ruptured before you have the surgery. May be as little as two to three days, or over a week if there's more complications.

I was in for a week, but that was many years ago. Now I guess they're so short of beds and anxious to keep up their government targets that you're probably sent home within a couple of days unless there's a good reason to keep you in longer.

My brother had his out and he left after 3 hours!He rested at home for a few days though

They do NOT let you home after 3 hrs if you have an appendix out!! I was in for 5 days as whiskey sheri says.xx

Look he was allowed back home alright!I am not lying.We live near the hospital and my mum wanted him to be at home so the doctor said he could go home but if he felt unwell he must come back immediately.

I was in hospital for 7 days, but that was quite a long time ago.

i had my appendix out a few months ago they were giving me trouble but htey were not bursted i had them taken out and stayed in hospital for 3 days (the pain after i had them out was terrible) but my brother also had his appendix out (which burst whilst inside im which could of kiled him) he was in 4 2 weeks. so really it depends on what state your appendix are in before you have them out

Where I work, it is becoming the norm for patients to have their appendix removed laparoscopically(keyhole) and the trend looks like it is increasing. If all goes smoothly, those who have it performed in such a manner often go home the day after.
