Terrible Nightmares

For as long as I can remember now I have been having terrible nightmares - sometines up to 5 nights a week.I go to bed happy,relaxed,snuggle up to my man,eventually fall asleep and then they start.99% of the time they involve something terrible happening to my son,or another family member.Or me.Lastnight I dreamed my 6 yr old son was drowning and I couldnt get to him,and I watched him die.I woke up in an awful state.The night before I dreamed I was being attacked by a woman who ripped my face to pieces till I was totally disfigured.


I have no idea why and this is really starting to distress me.I dont eat anything like cheese before I go to bed,which is meant to cause bad dreams.


Could anybody please help??xx

Hi...nightmare are often indirectly warning us about current behavior patterns or psychological imbalances that we need to remedy if we don�t want such unpleasant dreams to repeat, or worsen. Look around you or think back to when they started and see if there is or was anything that upset you. Have you had any fears about a loved one? Or any fears of being alone? The are reasons we have nighmares, it's a way of letting out some of your feelings...even it it is disturbing.

Hi Kazzianne, I have nightmares nearly every night too! they are awful! and i usually wake up not being able to get back to sleep for hours! above is a dream website that has some helpful ideas, i think dreams/nightmares are just a way of processing things that happen in our lifes, and dont tend to mean too much! try not to worry about them as it could make tthings worse!

Hi..it is also possible to re-write nightmares to give yourself more controle over what happens when you sleep. Try this...


Select a nightmare or upsetting dream which you�ve recently had (especially if it happened this morning!) and re-design a different ending to the dream. Like the one you had about your son. Instead of him drowning, imagine tou save him. Choose something which leaves you feeling empowered and confident. try and feel great about the new scenario, instead of the way you felt during or after the actual dream. Before going to bed tonight, sit in a comfortable position and relax your body and mind for a while. Tense and relax different parts of your body, and "witness" instead of concentrate upon any thoughts which cross your mind. Let it all go until tomorrow. Once you�re calm mentally visualize or remember the dream you�ve selected, running through as though you were watching a film, except at the point where things begin to turn unpleasant, replace the old ending with the new empowering one you created earlier. Remember to imagine it as vividly as you can, "making it up" as you go if you have to. Make it a special point to experience the new feelings of confidence, freedom and empowerment that your new ending gives you. Then give yourself the clear suggestion that not only are these new thought patterns now spreading into your waking life, but also that tonight or some time soon you may have just such a dream, which includes the new, more fulfilling ending. You may even suggest to yourself that you will recognize the dream as a dream, while it�s happening, in which case you can consciously direct it as you feel appropriate towards a more uplifting outcome.

Thanks guys - it has always been a joke that I wouls have funny/wierd dreams - like last year when I dreamed that one of the Slater sisters in Eastenders was put in the launderette washing machine by Phil Mitchell till he had mangled her to bits!!


But it has got to become frightening since the last year or two and the only thing that can vaguely tie in is that I met my boyfriend who I love to bits,and got myself out of money worries.But im very happy now so I dont understand,

I get bad dreams when I'm too hot in bed. <I'm just talking temperature here> I don't actually know why this should be - just pure physical discomfort translating instantly into mental discomfort? - but take a blanket off and they go away.
