It's my sister's 21st on Jan 3rd (I know that's ages away but yes we are already thinking), and every other birthday in her life has pretty much gone by without much of an event, mainly due to the time of year. However we really want to do something memorable for her 21st but need some inspiration.

The main problem is that my sister doesn't have a large group of friends, and those she does have, she isn't very close to. The maximum amount of friends there could possibly be would be around 5/6 and the rest would be made up by our family (which is large).

The family are really good and up for a laugh so themes and fancy dress is not a problem, but seeing as it's just after xmas, boxing day and new year, conversations between people who have spent a lot of time together over the festive season could be limited at a party!

So I need ideas/location/venue that are different/special/interesting memorable that we can do. It wouldn't necessarily have to involve a large group, it could be just the immediate family, but then again it could be something huge, I'm open to any suggestions.

We live in the North Kent/South London area.

Thanks AB-er's!!

Hi Ferg, my b'day is the 1st Jan and it always goes by with everyone knackered from all the partying.... so, i/we tend to incorporate any celebrations from midnight on 31st and then have a nice dinner and get together as open house on the 1st.

If you do have energy and want to make it 2 seperate parties, TGI's is a good place for birthdays.... ;-)

Why not go somewhere warm? After the festive celebrations a lovely soak in a warm sea and sunbathing on the beach would be most welcome

you could treat her like the queen / paddington bear.have an official/second birthday.

tell her you are arranging something for a bit later in the year, save up and take her somewhere she'd really love to go for a week/long weekend.that would be really memorable.maybe france, calias or paris.isle of wight. if not abroad then places like butlins and pontins are good for big groups.also by having it a while after xmas & n.year there will be more chance of interesting conversations.

my mate has said a 'red letterday' you know a gift like ; day at brands hatch driving, hot air ballon ride, pampersd at a spa weekend.you get the drift.

Why not organise an indoor beach party complete with cocktails, fake palm trees (make your own if you need to) and summer wear - It works well for us as do Xmas parties in the middle of summer!
