Can anyone recommend a cream for what I think is just ridiculously dry skin. It's like lots of little raised lumps, feels disgusting but fortunately cannot be seen unless up close. E45 is proving useless. I may have to resort to the doctors, as it's speading and nothing I've used so far seems to make it improve!

Your skin is the largest organ of the body, it needs more moisture than u probably think, drink more water, at least 2 litres a day and eat healthy fruit and veg, then it will be naturally less dry, use lotions as a cure for dry skin, but try to prevent it first.

Thanks dot.hawkes. I forgot to mention. it's only on my face. I've always had skin on the drier side but I cant think what might have triggered this weirdness. I do get hayfever but only mildly and the ********* has kicked now. Could it have anything to do with pollen does anyone think? I'm going to try diprobase as I see it has been recommended before, just wondering if anyone has any views on my pollen theory lol

dunno why but b-e-c-o-n-a-s-e was starred out. Product advertisement maybe??

hello teag1rl, this sounds a bit like eczma (not sure on spelling!) my little boy has it and i put hydrocortizone 1% cream on the worst affected areas (not sure if you can get that from the chemist, might be from docs only) and diprobase cream twice a day on the other affected areas.(i know you can get that from chemists for around 10 for a massive tub) E45 also do a stonger version for dry skin aswell im sure i've seen that in the chemist.

If its speading though i'd go to the doctors just to get it checked out, it wont harm to get an experts opinion. When i was younger i had tiny little bumps on my upper arms which felt rough (a bit like hard goosepimples!) they didn't itch or anything, my mum used to put cocoa butter on them, (i remember i'd try to scrub my arms with nailbrushes to get rid of them), it didn't make them go away but it made them softer to touch, by the time i reached 20 they'd all gone, natures weird!

eczma, hayfever and allergies are all linked together, it especially runs in families, maybe your mum, dad brother, sister, grandma or grandfather has one of these symptoms? These things usually run in families.

I used to get little dry itchy patches on different parts of my skin which my doctor thought was as an allergic reaction to nickel. He prescribed betnovate cream which was really good.

My brother has eczema and he started to use my betnovate rather than his E45 as it was so much better.

Hi there - there is a brilliant cream available from chemists now called EURAX - I have used it on my children and on myself and it is better than anything else on the market currently. Be careful with hydrocortisone, it left my son with scarring for a long time, and you should never use it on your face anyway.

my little boy is 21months old and the doctor prescribed the hydrocortizone cream (the 1% is the weakest isn't?) i only use it on the very worst bits of his skin, i agree with you Amara not to use it on the face, but did you use the cream for a long period of time for it to scar your son's skin?
His eczema was severe to say the least, from his head to his toes and everywhere in between. I used hydrocortisone on him for only a week or two each time - as directed - but over two years, this was before I knew better!! It left him with very bad marks, particularly on his lower arms and torso. I eventually took him to a Doctor of Chinese Herbal Medicine and we never looked back. That was 11 years ago. I would never use it again on any of my children, but this is just my personal view and experience, and I fully understand the difficulties of dealing with eczema. - Bright blessings - Amara xx
Try aqueous cream, available in chemists and most supermarkets. Its fab.
