tatoos - can you have them over scars

hi - do you know if tatooist's wuill put one over a scar - i dont know the correct word for my scar - it raises up of the skin - not allot but its there and i know it!!! i would love to cover it somehow - maybe hennas or something - or a real tatoo - i dont care i just want it covered!!

Yes, there are plenty of ways to cover a scar with a tattoo. One of the best ways is to actually incorporate it into the design. As with any other tattoo thread my advise would be to buy tattoo mags, do your research, speak to the artist re free-hand design and see what he/she would advise you.

Just thinking isn't tattoo a bit drastic, after all it is just another form of a scar and thou you might get used to your scar with time you might not like the tattoo. And you can't exactly do a scar free removal.

i diidnt realise that you could get tatoos over these - i though they werent allowed - im so happy about this - i have had these scars (due to self harm a v long time ago ) i fine now - just the bloody scars remind me >>> thanks

My partner got a tattoo on his arm a couple of months ago which went over a few self harm scars (about 8 years old). It wasn't an issue with the tattooist - in fact he didn't mention it - and it's been fine!

Just think long and hard about what design you want!

PURPOSE thanks for your support dear, i am unsure if i can get this done though - the thing is =- they are raised from my skin so no matter what tattoo i get it will stilll show - im just hoping that it will reduce the fact that it is a scar - i could always make the excuse that the tattoo went wrong - which people will understand alot more - than they would self harrm!!!! I hope that you dont have this nightmare - its not nice............

Jelisa - Mine are raised too - i have 4 VERY prominent ones on my left arm... so it would have to be a bloody clever and elaborate design to cover mine!

It seems such a shame that after beating the whole self-harm thing (eventually) i am left with reminders that don't actually bother me - it was (and still is) part of what makes me 'me', but others' reactions are hurtful so i tend to cover up unless i am with people i trust.

Hi there. There are some patches you can now get that heal old and new scars. Talk to your GP or Pharmacist. They are not cheap but have had excellent results.
