Breast feeding in public what are your views on this?

I was on my way to the supermarket today and on a chair in the supermarket in front of everyone a woman was breast feeding her baby.I think breast feeding is fine and perfectly natural but not infront of hundreds of people.She wasn't a bit descreet and I had to turn away quickly.Breast feeding is fine but not in public.

The trouble is, the breast has become such an object of lust these days, that its almost as if its seen as a sexual thing to breastfeed. Its the most natural thing we can do as mothers. The majority who do breastfeed in public, do so very discreetly. We as a nation need to get over it! Saying all that, i wouldn't do it in such a public place but thats my choice.

Funny that ~ my hubby is very much a 'boob' man but stayed away from them like the plague during my breastfeeding months!

He said that during that time, my breasts belonged to the baby..when I stopped breastfeeding they were his again :o)

yes pippa my hubby was the same but didn't you find it weird "giving them back" to your hubby after breastfeeding! strange at first!

My point was that everywhere we look there are boobs on display,the newspapers are full of em,endless boob jobs, women like Jordan, girls wearing next to nothing to flaunt their cleavage, i know they have always been seen as sexual but these days i just think its gone over the top! I think this has all had an effect on how we percieve seeing the breasts used.

if you went out and decided you were hungry how would you feel if you were told you could only eat in the toilet?! a lot of toilets aren't particularly clean and i certainly wouldn't want to eat in them so why should babies?!

Oh yes unruliejulie it was a bit wierd ~ although I did find it came naturally because I too no longer had the feeding association with my breasts.

I think even if he had tried to lay claim on them during the feeding months I would have had a fit!

Yes Julie I agree ~ my very belittled sister wasn't 'allowed' to breastfeed her baby because her boyfriend found it a disgusting thing to do..boobs weren't for feeding, they were to be ogled at & no way 'ruined' by their child.

Has anyone ever thought about why boobs are a sexual thing? has nobody else ever thought that the reason men ogle them & take delight in breasts is because of the association with feeding & comfort (even if they weren't breastfed themselves!)

Yes sometimes I kiss my girlfriend in public but mthat is not as bad as showing my chest ti a group of hundreds of shoppers.Of course the lady can feed her baby but there was no need to do it so undiscreetly and there is no need to be horrible just because you disagree with me.

Nobody has to agree with you ~ but we do have the right to voice our own opinions. It seems that you have the answers to your question, but of course they aren't the answers you were hoping for.

I was interested in how anyone can justify it.I understand that kissing my girlfriend to some is revolting so I do not go up to her in a supermarket and snog her.I would only ever peck her and that would only be if there was no-one else around.People need to have more respect forothers around them.

I didnt say that kissing your girlfriend was unacceptable. I was trying to get you to see that natural (I take it you do see lesbianism as natural??) activities do go on around us and people should be more accepting. If someone posted on here saying that they saw a girl give her girlfriend a quick peck and that it shouldnt be allowed in public then youd be one of the first to stand up for the gay couple. Wouldnt you? You ask for opinions and we have given them.

You didn't see this woman she had taken her top off completely and had it round her waist.You coul;d see everything and while most women cover the other breast while feedong she obviously saw no need to cover up at all.I think she could have made an effort to cOVER UP.i DIDN'T MEAN TO ANNOY PEOPLE i THOUGHT PEOPLE WOULD AGREE WITH ME AND A GOOD FEW DO.

I'm surpised no one (unless I missed it!) has mentioned boobs on show in newspapers everyday, this is somehow acceptable but feeding your baby is frowned upon?

I'm with Cat on this one, no woman breastfeeding in public would wap both boobs out, I'm certain Ruskie said this to emphasie her point.

Just out of curiosity sexyrussian, when you have your baby that you said you want to badly, will you breastfeed? And if so, will you do it in public, or run to the nearest public toilet to do so?
