Why does soup make me hiccup all the time, i never hiccup when eating anything else, just soup, and it's every kind of soup, from lentil to chicken to oxtail to tomato. What is it that's in soup that makes people hiccup?

I have the same problem with cold fizzy drinks when i drink them straight from the can. i think it's a temperature thing combined with slurping! Although you probably don't get hiccups from a cuppa, that's perhaps because you drink that differently, more sips or gulps than slurps? I know the chill, fizz and slurped air from a can of pop sets me off.
It is because you 'slurp' the soup causing you to swallow air with each spoonful.

Try putting the spoon (with the soup!) into your mouth rather than sucking the soup up off the spoon.
I was also going to say it must be the way you eat it. I reckon you are taking in too much air when you eat it. I never get hiccups from soup.
My other half sneezes when he eats fatty food. It's very odd!!
