I am an IK Brunel fan. I expect most people have seen the photo of him standing in front of a drum with a large diameter chain on it. This was one of the braking drums to slow the 'Great Eastern' as it went down the slipway. Anyway, IKB wrote on the back of the photo "I asked Mr. Russell (The ship yard owner) to stand with me, but he would not. So I alone am hung in chains"
Currently 'The moving finger' from Omar Khayyam, which writes and having writ moves on.. but tomorrow who knows; 'To sleep perchance to dream..' maybe. 'ay but there's the rub, so many beautiful quotations, how could you choose?
"Everything passes".It's part of a quote from St Teresa of Avila and in relation to everyday life it's comforting to know that in the midst of chaos and pain we know that the chaos will sort itself into some sort of order and that the pain will fade away. In the dark times in the middle of the night, the dawn will always come. That's as philosophical as I'm going to get but it's a simple, optimistic thought that can keep you going through bleak times and for two words, that's amazing.
