Anyway, I think if you follow all the safety protocols which I am sure willl be published on the site (such as tell a friend where/when/who, meet in a public place etc) and you approach it with an open mind, you should be fine - even if he isn't all he said he was.
If you are really unsure, you could pre-arrange a back up plan for a quick exit just in case, or have a friend nearby.
8 murders, 327 rapes, 2731 assaults, 239 harassment cases, 78 thefts, 909 indecent assaults, 12 identity thefts, 2 bogus marriages, 143 immigration offences, 20 kidnappings, 1036 peadophile assaults, 3 car thefts, 18 deceptions, 92 criminal damages and 1 case of animal cruelty resulted from "internet meetings" from April 2005-April 2006.
Good luck.
i have never dont it personally but its not really that different than any other date...For example, If you meet someone in a club, get their number and arrange to meet the next night for drinks, its still taking a risk! But people never seem to think of that. Ive met a guy before swapped a few texts, spoke a few times before deciding to meet up for a gate, he came to pick me up in his car, went out and he brought me home. all was fine, didnt work out but had nice night all the same - none of my friends thought anything of it.
But when you really think about it - i gave a stranger my number, spoke a few times told him my address and got into a car with him!!!!over a space of about a week! Crazy when you think about it!!
So go for it! Meeting someone on net is just like speed dating, or meeting someone in a pub really, yes they might turn up and they arent as good looking as they have said or a bit older/younger but looks arent everything.
Like people have already said - just tell someone where you are going, maybe even have a couple of friends go for a drink somewhere nearby just in case of a disaster!!. But dont forget all dates could be potential disaters!!!
Have fun and be safe!!! xxx
Heed all the usual safety advice as already mentioned like telling someone where/when etc. Make sure you have charged your mobile and don't forget to take it with you
I would also get a friend who knows where you are to ring your mobile at a pre-arranged time, like about half an hour after you have arranged to meet the bloke. That way, if he turns out to be a total minger, dead boring or a complete nutter you can answer your phone and then say "Oh no! I'll be back right away." Make something up before you go about why you must leave immediately (your house is on fire....your dog just got run over...anything really). That way you can leg it and it will also alert your friend that you aren't happy with the situation.
Of course all the above safety issues should be duly considered by anyone with a modicum of common sense, but to answer your specific question, I have two friends who met online who are getting married shortly.
They are the funniest most down to earth, normal everyday people you could hope to meet and truly are a couple well made for each other.
So yes, it doesn't always end in the gut-wrenching death that Ward-Minter would (try to) have you believe.
