50 Years Ago When Harold Wilson Was In...

I have a couple of pheasants (1 male and 1 female) that are regular visitors to my garden and indeed I encourage them by throwing out feed daily.
When the female disappeared for a week or two a couple of weeks ago I presumed that she was sitting on eggs and started to get very excited at the prospect of seeing little chicks! However she has now appeared back but with no sign of any chicks.
Do you think she may not have laid any eggs, that they have all perished somehow, that they are up and independant already? Any ideas?
