This may sound silly but my sister and I were talking about the menapause.. she then went off track a bit andstarted on about hormones,
She's heard "somewhere" that if a group of women were in a commune (such as nuns) etc. they all had periods at the same time, because they passed "hormones" around!
Has anyone else ever heard this?

Thanks Ethel - good to know more even though it wasn't my question!
For some reason, my A level philosophy teacher was fascinated with this phenomenon and spent many lessons printing off studies about it instead of teaching us! One statistic he showed us:
A group of 10 or so undergrads in uni halls were studied; within six months they had all synchronised to within 3-4 days of each other.
Thanks for the link Ethel.
It's totally true but it takes a while to occur. I've worked in a small post office for 2 years and my colleague and I now have our periods at the same time.
Yep, it certainly does....

Worked with a lot of women, a few years ago in a well known dept store and over a course of time we all had our periods within a few days of each other (some at the same time - but then there was a number of us!).

I'm living proof !!
In one of my relationships, i found this to be true.

I didn't believe it to begin with but a certain amount of synchronicity was evident!
me and my best frined have had babies 8 years apart and live in different town and we are about 3 days apart every single week, she gets hers first so I always know when it's coming
it's absolutely true. we are six sisters and when we lived at home with my parents we, all of us six sisters had our periods at the same time.
yes. i dont know why, but it always seems to happen to me when i work with a group of women. i am a school teacher (lots of women) and my whole team is on the same schedule...
Not if you are on the pill, because you come on and off at roughly the same time every month, so just because you hang about with others it wouldnt change those dates and it wouldnt change theirs
Yip, my best friend and I have shared a flat on about 4 seperate occasions since we were 14 and after a few months we will be havin our period at the same time. weird!
Yes ~ it certainly does happen, but usually when the relationships are 'close' (sorry to say it, SR!).

I worked in an all-female environment, and within about a year we had all synchronised periods. We found it strange that at first we became irregular, and one by one we were all on at the same time!

The same thing has happened with me & my daughter. One month she was very late and eventually came on 2 weeks later..on the day I started :) we are still in sync much to Mr Pippas delight, LOL.
As a side note, when I planned my wedding I discovered that I was going to be on my period on the day we had arranged to wed.

6 months before the wedding my period was a day before it was due..and in the months following I continued to come on a day earlier than I should have.

This meant that my period actually finished a week before my wedding! did I will this to happen? or did mother nature just decide to be kind to me :o)
