How can I tell if any of my shoes are made from leather? This probably sounds silly, but is there some sort of mark on shoes to tell if they are leather? I have some boots which were dirt cheap and at a guess I would think they were made from some sort of man-made product but I'd like to know for sure. Also, what about the soles on trainers...are they rubber?

there would have been a label on the shoes/boots at time of purchase containing a set of symbols denoting the content of the upper, insole and sole, the symbol for leather is depicting an open animal skin/hide, the symbol for synthetic is hard to put on here but it looks like two brackets back to back, the symbol for fabric is like a small woven square. trainee soles are probably a synthetic called polypropylene (?) I have all the facts about these synthetics at work, not at home. It is rare to get leather soles as they would not wear well, though very expensive men's and ladies shoes can have leather soles for comfort.
