on saturday there was a party in my road, nothing against parties, but what did annoy me was the drink driving there was about 5 big 4x4s next to a kids park the drivers were drunk drinking beer while at the wheel and racing up and down the road we have lots of children in the road that use the park so i ended up phoning the local police not to be a killjoy but because of the idiots.
the police told me they were too busy to come so could i go out and have a word with these 20 somethings!!! well im sorry but im not going to try and take on a dozen blokes especially after the news regarding recent stabbings, what would you do seeing as the police would not help?

Definately submit a complaint. It's not your responsibility to put yourself in a potentially dangerous situation. Do you have the name of the police representative you spoke to?
Question Author
no i dont wish i had, what do you have to do now to get the police to help? is it the same every where or just in little villages?
Hi loopy, we have the same probs in our little parish. I called the police and they said they were too busy so i gave them all the registration numbers of the cars.

If it happens again call a national newspaper and see if they will take the story and film it if you can.
Question Author
good dea i will do that next time. i was brought up to respect the police but how can you respect them when they no longer do there job.
you dont know they were drunk. I would have taken their number plates and reported them to crimestoppers
call 999 if crime is in progress and demand that they come out. Take details of registrations, photos if you can do it without being seen or video as evidence of the driving.

You should not have had to put yourself in any danger.

Kazza, Ok they may not have been drunk but surely you dont agree with drivers drinking at the wheel?
Question Author
They were definatly drunk, throwing up and all sorts and even if they were not drunk that doesnt excuse the polices response by telling me to basically deal with it myself.
The police are useless everywhere. I had my car window smashed a few weeks ago and my neighbour saw it happen. not only have the police not been round to ask him about it but I also get pulled over the other day because the window was covered with a bin bag and the policeman told me that he had raidioed in to see if the matter had been reported (he was checking that the car hadn't been stolen that morning) and was told that the matter HAD NOT been reported. This means that the report I made was simply thrown in the bin. Would the police be so flaming lazy if it was their property being damaged? I don't think so!!!!!

Next time swear at the officer that you are talking to, they will be round straight away threatening to arrest you, but at least you will have them in the area so if things are kicking off they will have to do something. (Not done this myself but a neightbour did)

thanks redcrx x
loopy, give your local paper a call, also speak to your neighbours to see if anyone else reported the situation at all
hi loopy

it is a joke isn't it, if you have a video camera, film the silly sods, and give that to the police, mind you they will probably lose it !!!
actaully redcrx had a similar sitauation where an 11yr old nearly ran her off the road, Police did S**t all.
Question Author
i know its pathetic, we only see police in the town if uttoxeter horse races are on, apart from that you cannot get a police man for love nor money!!
I'd have done exactly what redcrx said... i'd have called the local paper.

You did the right thing NOT to get personally involved though :0)

i know fee-is-me im not a wimp but you never know now if you might end up dead!!
Question Author
thank you ward-minter to be honest i dont expect to get anywhere if i make a complaint! maybe i am just old fashioned and think the police force are there to protect us, sadly it would seem this is no longer the case. thank you for your answers everybody x
EXACTLY loopyc!!!

W~M... i noticed last night that your description of me had disappeared... was it REALLY that offensive that it needed to get pulled...?
4getmenots right i did have to call 999 after a (what turned out to be stolen) van with a 12 year old driving almost ran me off road. Bt the time the police arrived the van was smashed up and the kids had walked away. It took over an hour for the police to arrive.
The problem is that people get this sort of reaction from the police and eventually give up calling to report crimes or, worse still, trying to sort out trouble themselves.
The police claim that certain crime figures are down, i wouldnt be at all surprised if figures are actually on the rise but that nothing gets reported nowadays
i called the police a month or so back because a fist fight had rolled into the middle of the road and one of the fighters had pulled a knife and was holding it to the others throat... the operator i spoke to first of all wanted me to go back to the fight to see what sort of knife it was (he was not satisfied with my description that it was a five inch blade) - which i refused to do as a passer-by trying to help had already been threatened off once, as the men had been shouting at each other i was able to give them their first names and good descriptions but while i was giving the details of this the operator interrupted and started reading off my phone number to me and saying that they knew where i was (which i clearly confirmed to them and gave them my full name etc), he muttered something and got a bit shirty with me then rung off... I watched the men fight amongst the traffic, told them i had called the police and that they should stop and about 10 mins later they all left bloodied but at least not stabbed. The police never arrived or called me back

so not sure what i would do now in your situation - maybe i'd call on a few neighbours for back up and confront the drivers (though i wouldn't like to do it on way own)
