'Alternative' remedies for relieving IBS - do they work?

I have been suffering from the symptoms of IBS for the past 6 months now and after being prescribed Mebeverine by my doctor i realised it does not work very well at all. I am now trying more 'natural' remedies such as Acidophilus tablets to restore the 'good bacteria' in my gut and Peppermint capsules to soothe my symptoms if they flare up, as i really do not want to pump my body full of chemicals.

I have heard that alternative therapies such as hypnotherapy or acupuncture can be used to good effect to alleviate IBS symptoms. I just wanted to know if any of you have tried any of these and if so how effective were they?

Cheers,

Hi -- you may also want to try yoga -- it has been proven to be extremely helpful in easing/preventing the symptoms of IBS. Good luck. xx
Hi Stunt Monkey,

Please try 'Maxicol' which you can get from any health store. You dissolve three teaspoons in a pint of water and off you go. It don't taste too good (so i mix mine with orange squash) but I absolutely swear by it.

Sorry, I have no idea. Maybe have a look on the Slimming World site or ask whoever takes your SW class. They should be able to find out for you. Good luck.x
