according to http://www.corpun.com/uksc8102.htm there is no corporal punishments in Russia. Rather, children's crimes are written down and pasted on the notice board at the entrance of the schools for all parents/visitors to read.
The shame of a misdemeanour means punishments are taken care of by the parents.
I haven't found any web evidence to support corporal punishment in Russian schools.

Pippa, mimififi, thanks. I am very well aware that most of the things it comes out with are complete and utter nonsense. Thats why I usually just ignore its threads. What I would like to say is that IT is not Russian. And its keenness to stir up resentment towards Russians in the people willing to hear all that nonsense is what really annoys me.
Russian schools encourage discipline in the classroom. Students are sat in the rows of 2, can only speak to the teacher when allowed thus its easy to maintain a figure of authority so the use of corporal punishment is unnecessary. The worst that can happen is the wrong-doer can get sent out of the classroom, which immediately goes on his/her record and the parents are informed. Its far too easy to get expelled from the school for misbehaviour so very few try. I believe, its pretty much the way things used to be here in the 50s, minus the corporal punishment.

Im 40 and I got caned a couple of times at school. We also used to get a ruler over the back of our hands or a big ruler over our backsides. There was also the slipper which was actually the PE teachers huge size 12 trainer. (Why did the PE staff always seem to dish out the punishments?) I seem to remember bringing a form home when I was about 13/14 that asked for parental permission to give cane and stuff to the pupils. I think my parents signed that it was okay to do it :(
never got the cane at my school but the slipper was a favourite form of torture for most teachers who dished it out for pretty much anything they didn't like including stupid things like forgetting dinner money. i never saw a girl get slippered altho it was common enough for lads to get it in front of class. ah, the good old days (!!!)
