It depends on what is causing your bad back.
There are lots of excersises to help with bad backs but you should see a doctor before trying any exercises as you could make it much worse.
I suffer from pain in the lower back, one of the excercises I do, given to me by a physio, is, Stand erect, with feet apart, suck in your stomach, try to visualise your stomach touching your spine and hold for as long as you can, as you get used to it, increase the amount you do.

I go into this excercise as soon as I feel the first pangs. it works.
Has anyone tried Magnotherapy?

Ok if you've seen a doc heres a possible quick fix which seems to work for me, i think my problem is muscular so it gives it a bit of a stretch.
I learned this of a Rugby mate.
Stand back to bac with someone your height or taller lock arms (at the elbows area) the your mate bend forward lifting you off your feet and stretching your back hold for a few seconds, You might be able to feel some clicks when you do this but it makes me feel better afterwards....
Exercise/activity in general seems good for mine. Actually, something involving bending down seems best. EG a bit of gardening. Yes, it hurts at first, but overall it does improve my back. The worst thing for it seems to be my job: sitting at a computer all day.

One thing I do every morning, and I'm sure it helps greatly, is a yoga posture called cobra. This stretches the ligaments in your back and 'unbends' it. Lie down on your stomach, put your hands palm down on the floor, by your shoulders, and lift your torso off the floor, trying to keep your hips on the floor. IE bend your back, backwards, like a bow. To start with, it seems impossible (which just shows how inflexible your back's become) but it will come with time. Don't do too much bend to start with, just be gentle.
