just picking up on Blyss thread about the said mentioned above, it is clear that '' The thing'' is idolised by some on this site.
I am not one of these fans, and can't stand the bloke.
I can't believe people on here are soooooooo in love with him, are some of you present or ex druggies. this is not a personal dig at people that do have a ''REAL DRUG PROBLEM'' the majority of people that dappled in drugs do it because they believe it is socially exceptable, and i'm being one of the lads.
So my question is,
Has pete doherty got an illness{might have now} or was it as i suspect like the majority of other users, self inflicted.
Apologies once again if i have upset anyone, this is not my intention.

I'm going to stick my two penn'rth in here as an ex heroin and everything else abuser, and sympathy though I have for him, Wardy and Laurence are right, it's not an illness, it's his choice.
He chose to take drugs, ( like I did) and he's choosing now to play the "poor me" part ( like I did) and eventually hopefully he'll stand up for himself and to himself and actually make the CHOICE to stop taking drugs ( like I did).
I don't wish him dead and I don't think he corrupts kids (quite the reverse probably) and I don't think he deserves the adulation he gets because he's a mediocre performer and really no great talent, but he is a human being as worthy as the next person of my compassion, he's not a paedophile, murderer etc etc etc, just a daft lad so I prefer to keep his problems in perspective, he's damaging himself and no-one else and doesn't deserve to die for it.
I like, for the record:-
REM
Manic Street Preachers
Leonard Cohen
Cranberries
Athlete
Santana
Evanescence
Jose Gonzalez
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Curved Air (for anyone old enough to remember them)

Why are people so quick to condemn people for taking drugs.i am not saying its right but try and see why these people take drugs.i had a problem for years with drugs.its not like everythings dandy in their world and when offered a drug they think oh i will be a rebel.people have different ways of dealing with things.i will be the first to admit its not the right way but when you are in a bad way drugs are a temporary escape its very tempting to say yes.try and see things from other peoples point of view.dont think these people have had the same life as you and have every reason not to take drugs like you probally do.if you lived their lives you would probally end up going down a similar road.i dont want anyone jumping at me for this cause i have went down that road and met so many people and i know what i am talking about.unless you actually know what its like dont have a go at me.to answer your question i assume you are talking about his spaced out persona.it might be to do with his drug abuse,it might not.i know a lot of people who acted like him and took drugs.people assume its the drugs when in fact its the reason why the person took the drug.shyness etc.and can i just leave on saying this.its people who condemn drug users that make it harder for them to give them up.have a bit of understanding that they are not doing it cause they want to.things have gotten so bad that they cant stop.try and see things from there point of view.i saw pete doherty on jonaton ross.i think he genuinely wants to stop the drugs and hes doing well.best of luck to him.
