I am not intending to be alarmist or cruel here, but my eldest son has very similar unreasonable fears and though he is very intelligent and has a brilliant mind, he does have slight autism, which causes him to be agitated by anything that changes his surroundings or the routine of his day. It is really not noticeable to other people but I have been aware of it since he was about 11. It only causes problems if things are not made very clear and advance warning of any changes given, he is able to adjust to the idea in his own time then. i have always thought that he would grow out of it but he hasn't, it is such a minor thing in his life though and quite manageable with foresight.
