You might need to specify if you mean TV braodcast channels - if I still had the TV and could only watch dvds through it... though I can do that on my imac.
Pity so many people so far have opted for books - you engage with books differently than you do with TV; the brain is more active. I fear we will in future become a nation of amoeboid blobs as our brains and muscles turn slowly to mush while we're slumped in front of the telly. Leaving us open to alien invasions. Or something.

There is loads of crap on TV, sure, but it's not "full" of it... nor is it all just celebrity nonentities. It doesn't take much to pick out the gems on TV, and they are there to be had.
Magazines though - I once worked out we only actually need about 15 magazines. It's ridiculous that you walk into Smith's and the magazine section extends into the distance, straddling several time zones. 95% of it is crap. Of course, getting rid of them would release onto the job market all those people with names like Clare, Claire, Emma, Natasha, Sara, Lara, Kara, Tara, Veruca, Parabola, Justin, Ben, Ben, James and Ben, whose otherwise pointless media studies degrees render them useless for anything other than churning out lame magazines. So we'd have to find something for them to do.
