I just met with a surgeon and found out I have two inguinal hernia's...one on each side. Im a dancer, and have a chance to do a professional show just a few weeks after the surgery. Does anyone know if that is too soon for me to be jumping, and kicking around? The show will last two months.... (the show is West Side Story...so lots and lots of dancing is required) thanks xx
My grandad had a double hernia operation and I'm afraid he took a good few months to recover fully. He's a fit man (cycles every week, goes on long hikes weekly too) but obviously as he was early 70s at the time, you would recover a bit faster.
Hi, i had an inguinal hernia repair 1 week ago, i feel fine, not much pain. was up walking kids to school the next day. I have been told that i should be taking it easy, as it is easy to undo the repair with the slightest strain. not to lift anything for up 8 weeks!!! So i think getting the hernias fixed is your main priorty at the moment. you dont want the hernias to re-appear after surgery.

I know that the surgery for hernia repairs can be much less invasive than it was years ago, but I suspect that as a professional dancer you will be putting your future fitness hugely at risk if you start straining yourself too soon. My husband has undergone surgery for a double hernia - twice and it was many months before he was back to his former fitness level, and he still has problems from time to time. I imagine you've already spoken to your surgeon about your profession. Take his advice, but don't risk putting your future long-term fitness in jeopardy. You may regret it later and damage your long term career.
