What can I do when I am off on holiday for 2 weeks?

I know this probably isn't the proper topic section but I know this is good for getting some good contributions.
I am off on holiday in 2 weeks time for a fortnight and although my boyf and I aren't going anywhere we are looking for some inspiration of where we can go for a day out or even an overnight stay. I live in Glasgow but we have a car so could travel if we had to. We don't have a lot of money to spend only about 250 so any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance

I spend a lot of time in Glasgow (although i live in England at the mo) and the museums, galleries and assorted other attractions are amazing if you haven't done them all.
The Science Centre is a fun day out although will prob be full of kids over the Summer.
The Falkirk Wheel takes up half a day too - and is lovely in the good weather. Combine this with Stirling Castle and you've got a full day of interest!
The Burrell Collection, Pollock House and the Transport Museum are fascinating too. Do i sound like a tour guide...?!!!
The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has just reopened so i will be going there soon.
Apologies if none of these are your sort of thing :0)

Thanks for all your answers guys. I have a few ideas already like the Art Gallery, the Transport Museum, Pollock House, People Palace so thanks for them Fee.
As for the Edinburgh Festival I did look at that but it didn't seem like my kinda thing, although I didn't see the street entertainments stuff (if you pardon the expression) mostly opera, classical music etc.
Alton Towers sounds like a good day and I will look into Nairn as well. Cheers x
