I think I can say without fear of contradiction that there is no general requirement for immunisation, although some private schools may have their own thoughts on the matter, at least for information's sake. However, it is virtually certain that your family doctor will raise the matter and at that point you can make your choices as you see fit.
My sons are nearly 5 and nearly 9 years old and have never had any vaccinations. They have been to various nursery schools etc. and now state school and we have had no problems. Unlike the US, we are not (yet) forced to vaccinate. However, there have been odd incidences involving the social services where parents have suffered. "What Doctors Don't Tell You" at http://www.wddty.co.uk
and the "Informed Parent" at http://www.informedparent.co.uk
are good sources of alternative info. on this kind of thing.
my problem with asking your gp is that it's unlikely they've done any research or would question something thats been drummed into them since beginning of med school. they have all be told the story of jenner and his vax (apparent) success. also they are financially motivated, 90 % of children under 5 vaxed they get over 2 grand, 70% a few hundred and any less nothing. you don't believe everything a commision paid salesman says do you?
but how do you know the vax got rid of the diseases? maybe it was just improved nutrition, sanitation etc i can't look it up at the moment but i have seen statistics showing the decline of certain diseases before the vax was introduced. Years ago for example in the days of smallpox leicester didn't vax yet a neighbouring town did and more died there (don't have the book "the vaccination bible" to hand at the moment, it's in there). when announcements of deaths by measles come out they often fail to mention the health of the child before catching it. They were usually very seriously ill already. As long as your children are breastfed (the absolute best thing ever you can do for your child's immunity) and eat healthy food they should be able to cope with any childhood diseases. in fact there is a thought that they are practise for the immune system so it's stronger to cope with bigger things. those who have had measles are less likely to get certain cancers for example. then there all those nasty chemicals used in vax to preserve them, i really wouldn't fancy a nice mercury and formaldehyde injection really! Hate to think what those would do to your brain. Could explain the increase in behavioural problems these days (along with poor diet). Don't even get me started on those artificial sweeteners!
here are some stats http://www.whale.to/m/statistics.html

look up the late Dr Robert Mendelsohn, a paediatrician against vax.
tracyh - first of all you mention better nutrition as a possible reason (rather than vaccination) for the reduction in certain diseases then you talk about poor diet as a possible cause for increased levels of behavioural problems. You can't have it both ways. You only have to look at the graphs (on the website you suggested) to see how the number of deaths from "common" diseases such as measles etc have decreased dramatically since the 1920s. So called behavioural problems are another matter and even I wouldn't rule out the increased use of food additives as a possible cause. However, where you get your ideas about being injected with mercury and formaldehyde from simply baffle me.
i think that now we do feed children rubbish but you can't call them malnourished. They are not starving but they are fed alot of undesirable things which could account for other health problems like cancer and behaviour disorders. The childhood diseases vaccines are for are often no longer a threat due to proper sanitation and hygiene. As for the mercury and formaldehyde comment - just read the ingredients for vax and you'll see what i mean.
