Does anybody ever get embarrassed by their accent ?

Unfortunately i have been blessed (ugh) with a midlands accent not brummie but black country accent (not too strong) If you go to London or somewhere do you seem to change how you talk a little . I remember when i moved to Surrey for six months and was a bit embarrassed , you know we say grass up north and they say grars. I was embarrases to say the word bus . Anybody else like this or am i just odd ? thanks

No, I do too. I've got a very broad Lancs accent, don't notice it in everyday conversations, but I do if I speak to someone else from another county, especially a southern one

No, never, mind you I'm a soft southener currently residing in surrey!

It's not about how you speak at the end of the day. And besides, most people love accents, I know of loads of girls who have accents that they have a 'thing' for if you know what I mean.

I have a heavy Belfast accent which is fine enough in itself but it does close doors smack in your face occasionally so my wife whose an actress taught me to speak RP so I can sound like a newsreader too if it pleases me:)Generally don't bother though, but it has had it's uses.I'm usually loud and proud.

Hi inej, i have a horrible Leicester accent, think yourself lucky you come from that part of the midlands!!!!! Whenever i hear Leicester people on central news, i cringe! It just sounds so common, even though i must sound like that too!

Rp is "recieved pronounciation" or "proper english", slightly upper class and snotty if you like, lol, but preferable to Belfast in some scenarios.

I'm from the northeast of Scotland and have quite a strong accent. I moved to London 3 years ago and have found I have had to change a lot of my words (no one here understands doric!) speak slower and soften my accent.

I think it would be rude of me to move to another country and not make the effort to make myself easily understandable. I haven't lost my accent tho and would be mortified and would move home if I ever started to loose it!

When I go home to visit my family I'm back to speaking normal again and my boyfriend can't understand a word i'm saying :) x

i dont have an accent really. I live in Norfolk so occasionally have a slight norfolk accent but my dads a londoner and my mums from bradford so we all have a bit of everything accent
