at work i have an agency bloke who is my own little gofer, he means well but i cant help but take the rise out of him constantly, the other day he was on the net looking for holidays to go with his gf on and he asked my advice, i told there there is a lovely little place called lebanon which is gorgeous this time of year and to phone up and enquire, he never watches news so had no idea:) also when he brought his lunch back from the canteen and got up to get a drink he came back to find me eating his lunch, so he had to go back to canteen and buy another helping making him look like a fat pig :) am i unduly harsh on gofer? or am i teaching him valuable life skills?
I would look at it as your teaching him ''FREE OF CHARGE'' life skills, if he makes a mistake {like tempting you with his sandwich whilst its left unattended} he deserves to be taught a lesson by you.
Explain to him what the going rate is for '' YOUR SERVICES'' and i'm sure he will appreciate that hes had a result at half the price
my job is so stressful that is I had to deal with things like that it might make me reevaluate my career, it is hard to be conscientious in this day and age and I feel under appreciated as it is.
you're clearly teaching him very valuable life skills, whether he appreciates it or not is another matter. It's your duty as his boss to toughen him up and make him more savvy. you wouldn't be doing your job properly if you weren't.
skyfitter - why do people pick on you? do you not take the correct tools for the job with you, and are therefore unable to drill through say, very thick stone walls to install folks Sky dishes?
it is not possible to unstall a sky dish in a property with very thick stone walls we have to put it on the roof, which is a three man job and subject to survey we tend to take our time over that as we get in trouble if we dislodge more than a few slates, but if it isn't raining this week and I don't get any complicated jobs like that, then i may get my prize.
